Potato prices in Georgia stabilize at record high

EastFruit analysts continue to monitor the potato market in Georgia. Prices jumped back in September, when it became clear that due to drought, the harvest in the main producing region of Samtskhe-Javakheti (JV) would be significantly lower this season. As prices rose, imports became possible, and now the market seems to have stabilized thanks to them. Prices for potatoes in the wholesale markets of Georgia have been holding at the level of about 1.80 lari/kg ($0.67) for a couple of weeks now. Prices are stable both in lari and US dollars. The suspension of growth was achieved through imports. Georgia imported 2.2 thousand tons of potatoes in October and November 2022, which is the highest figure in the last 5 years. Interestingly, this time the situation has changed, and Russia and Belarus dominated in the last batches of imported potatoes. 80% of November imports came from these countries.
