Potato production in Azerbaijan decreased by 4%

In Azerbaijan, potatoes are grown in many regions of the country, but the products produced are not enough to meet the needs of the domestic market. Azerbaijan imports some potatoes, in particular from Iran. However, the Food Safety Agency recently suspended the import of Iranian potatoes due to the discovery of harmful organisms in them - root rot and brown bacterial rot. It is not yet known how long the ban will last, and some experts have expressed the opinion that in connection with this we can expect an increase in the price of this agricultural crop. In the first half of 2023, the country reduced both imports and exports of this tuber crop. In the first half of the year, 83.167 thousand tons of potatoes were imported (a decline of 16.9%) worth $23.061 million (a decline of 12.3%).
