The Russian government has prohibited the publication of the FMCG (consumer goods) deflator index by ROMIR research holding, as the index showed higher price growth rates than the official Rosstat figures. The ban is due to the significant inflation, with potatoes and vegetables being the primary drivers, leading to an annual price growth rate approaching 20%. The high inflation is attributed to the large financial investments in the war against Ukraine. As a result, the prices of potatoes, vegetables, and other fruits and vegetables are expected to reach record highs until May-June 2025, due to high loan interest rates, labor shortage, and the devaluation of the ruble.
