The Korea Price Association reports that the cost of making kimchi for a family of four has increased by approximately 20% compared to last year, due to a significant rise in the prices of key ingredients such as cabbage and radish. This increase is attributed to reduced production caused by a heat wave. However, the prices of some other ingredients like green onions and ginger have seen a decrease. The government is planning to subsidize up to 40% of the costs of agricultural products and up to 50% of seafood products to offset the high prices for consumers during the kimchi season. The association predicts that the cost of kimchi may further decrease in the future as cabbage prices begin to stabilize.
