The price of galunggong in the National Capital Region (NCR) is expected to decrease in the coming weeks following the lifting of a three-month closed fishing season in Palawan, which supplies 95 percent of the fish sold in Navotas Fish Port Complex. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) announced the lifting of the season on January 31, 2021, leading to an increase in supply and expectations of price stabilization. Since the implementation of the closed fishing season in 2015, galunggong production in the area has significantly increased, according to the National Stock Assessment Program. BFAR's law enforcement group reported only two fishing vessel violations during the three-month period.
