Price of bell pepper rose sharply in Belgium

After weeks of meager bell pepper prices, prices shot up last week. Both red and yellow yielded considerably more for the VBT bells in week 33. The aubergine price also rose sharply, while the rise in tomato prices did not want to continue and the high cucumber price fell slightly. Below is an overview of the price developments at the auctions of the Association of Belgian Horticultural Cooperatives. In week 33, a kilo of vine tomatoes sold for just over 48 euro cents on average, while loose tomatoes yield just under 60 euro cents on average. Just like last week, the volumes are higher than in the difficult summer of 2021, but much lower than in 2020. Compared to week 32, the volume of loose tomatoes supplied has increased slightly and that of vine tomatoes has fallen. This has resulted in a slight price drop of more than 2 euro cents for loose tomatoes, while the price for vine tomatoes drops very slightly at less than 2 euro cents per kilo.
