[Agricultural and Fisheries Newspaper=Reporter Nara Park] On the 16th, Gongju City announced that Gongju region chestnuts won both the Grand Prize and the Excellence Award at the '2025 Republic of Korea Representative Fruit Selection Contest', thereby once again proving the highest quality in the nation. This contest, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and organized by the Korea Forest Service (National Institute of Forest Science), is a nationwide event that evaluates the quality and cultivation management levels of four major forest fruits: chestnuts, walnuts, jujubes, and bitter melons. From Gongju, the 'Dae-bo' variety from Eunseong-myeon Lee Woon-heung's orchard was ranked first in the nation and won the Grand Prize (Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award), and the 'Changbang Gamyul' variety from Jeongan-myeon Lee Gwan-jae's orchard was ranked second in the nation and won the Excellence Award (Korea Forest Service Director Award).
