The alpaca fiber chain in the Apurímac region has taken a significant step towards formalization and direct sales to the textile industry. The Sociedad Peruana de Alpaqueros Registrados (SPAR) from the district of Oropesa, in the province of Antabamba, completed the commercialization of 147,048 pounds of fiber to the company Inca Tops, for an amount exceeding S/3 million, in an operation coordinated with the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), through Agromercado. The transaction directly benefits 464 communal alpaca breeders of the Huacayo and Suri breeds, belonging to the communities of Huillcarana, Sonccoccocha, Juntaya, Ccoyllullo, Itaña, Chichllamarca, Yumire, Kilcata, and Huacullo, who have managed to improve the quality of their offerings and access better commercial conditions.
