A study conducted by Dr. Dušan Palić of Ludwig-Maximilians University and Dr. Kriangsak Mengumphan of Maejo University, published in Aquaculture Reports, found that supplementing diets for hybrid catfish broodstock with low levels of freshwater fish oil can improve their performance and reproductive indicators. The research indicated that the supplementation provides additional dietary energy and enhances the palatability of the standardized food. The study used freshwater fish oil due to its cost-effectiveness and sustainability, as it is a byproduct of industrial catfish processing. This finding could solve a challenge for Thai aquaculture by improving the quality of broodstock, which is crucial for producing high-quality eggs, larvae, and fingerlings for grow-out farming.
