Production of yerba mate advances, but demand remains low

According to the Economic Bulletin released this Thursday (4) by Emater/RS-Ascar, the production of yerba mate presents distinct results among the regions of Rio Grande do Sul. In the administrative region of Erechim, productivity remains within expectations. The bulletin points out that "productivity so far is good, around 900 arrobas per hectare in 6,850 hectares planted." The price paid by the industry is approximately R$ 14.00 per arroba, but producers report "low demand from local industries for the crop." In Passo Fundo, the main update was the inclusion of Barbaquá Machadinho yerba mate among the 50 products selected for the Unique Flavors Guide of Rio Grande do Sul, 2026 edition. The region also received the official registration of the Geographical Indication (GI) Yerba Mate Region of Machadinho, granted by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).
