The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) in Spain is working on a Royal Decree to implement European Union regulations regarding the use of processed animal proteins (PAT) in livestock feed for pigs and poultry. A public consultation period is open until February 23, to help draft the decree. The EU regulation, in effect since last August, permits the use of PAT from non-ruminant animals in feed for poultry and pigs, and from poultry in feed for pigs. However, countries can exempt certain processes, which this decree aims to outline. The decree will also ensure the availability of public lists of establishments involved in the process, excluding those involved in ruminant slaughter or meat processing.
