The State of Piauí in Brazil is aiming to become a major fruit producer and exporter in the Northeast region by 2026, with the help of the ProFruti project. Funded by the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Piauí (Fapepi) and the State Sectorial Chamber of Fruticulture, the project aims to increase fruit production by at least 30% and generate around 10% economic growth in the region. The project will implement technology transfer and innovation in fruit cultivation, with a team of experts and 13 action plans. The areas for the installation of technological reference units are being prepared, and training for rural extension technicians and producers is underway. The project will focus on the cultivation of acerola, banana, guava, passion fruit, and grape.
