EU cereal production for 2023/24 is forecasted to be 4.3% lower than the five-year average, primarily due to adverse weather impacting maize and barley crops. Despite this, the use of cereals for animal feed is expected to stay consistent, while biofuel production may see a 12% increase. The EU remains a net exporter of cereals, with exports to the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa growing in recent months. On the other hand, EU oilseed production is performing well, with a 6% increase compared to the previous year and 11% above the five-year average, thanks to higher output of sunflower and soybeans.
