The Regional Government of Puno has initiated the execution of the project "Improvement of capacities for the conservation and management of domestic South American camelids of the Suri and Huacaya colored breeds in high Andean zones," which will cover six provinces of the region, with an investment of S/33,515,549. The Colored Alpacas project will be executed by the Regional Agrarian Development Management of Puno over a period of 36 months, benefiting 6,783 targeted producers in 267 peasant communities and organizations from 40 districts of the region. "Of the total investment, almost 10 million soles will be allocated to the construction of processing plants; each one of them will transform around 8,000 kilos of alpaca fiber," mentioned the regional governor, Richard Hancco Soncco.
