Livestock producers in Mexico warned that there is no need to import beef from abroad, especially from Brazil, because the country has sufficient availability and surplus that will easily cover domestic consumption through 2026.

The National Confederation of Livestock Organizations has requested that the government of Claudia Sheinbaum establish controls on imports, primarily from countries with which Mexico has no trade treaty, to prevent an oversupply that would generate economic losses for the livestock sector. According to figures from the organization, the supply of beef is guaranteed, as there is an expected additional availability of 1.2 million heads of cattle for fattening, which will translate into approximately 396 thousand tons of beef in the channel, a volume 20 percent higher than the national average recorded in 2025. This volume is equivalent to about 277 thousand tons of boneless meat for domestic consumption, a quantity that largely exceeds imports from Brazil, which amounted to around 120 thousand tons at the end of this year.
