Raspberry acreage is falling again in Huelva, Spain

In the Spanish province of Huelva, the soft fruit area for the current 2022/2023 season amounts to a total of 11,802 hectares. That is 0.53% more than last year. Freshuelva, the association of growers and exporters of strawberries and berries from Huelva, indicates that, according to data from the member companies, the strawberry acreage covers 6,295 hectares. That is 2% more than last season's 6,167 hectares. "Due to the high temperatures and the lack of rain in October, the growers had to replant about 20% of the plots in total until almost the end of November. The first harvest of those plants will therefore take place later than that of the seedlings grown in were transplanted in October. The replanting of course also causes a considerable increase in cultivation costs." The blueberry area has also grown by 2% from 3,532 hectares last season to 3,602 hectares this year.
