Record export of sunflower meal from Bulgaria for 2022/23

In view of the extremely high quantities of sunflower imported into Bulgaria during the past season, the export of sunflower meal marks a new record. From September 2022 to August 2023, Bulgarian companies exported 0.69 Mt of sunflower meal, setting a new record. Compared to the previous season, we exported nearly 14% more. And compared to the average since 2018, exports have grown by a little over 62%. Our processing industry makes the most of the situation in the region and increases Bulgaria's share in international markets. However, the new season is not looking so good at the moment given the imposed bans on sunflower imports effective since May. Of the exported quantities in the 2022/23 season, 0.6 Mt went to third countries, and the rest remained in the EU. No surprises, the lion's share of exports was to China with as much as 0.55 Mt.
