Uzbekistan is on track to become one of the world's top five largest exporters of fresh onions by the end of the 2023/24 season, according to EastFruit analysts. This is despite export bans from other major onion exporting countries. The country has experienced record onion production, leading to a 40% drop in onion prices in January 2024 compared to harvest time. Uzbekistan's onion exports for the current season could surpass 300 thousand tons, potentially outpacing Poland, Afghanistan, Spain, Egypt, and possibly even the USA.
