The article highlights the collaborative efforts of Inagro, PCA, and Pibo Campus in conducting variety trials for new potato chip varieties, planting a total of 17 varieties across three test fields in Flanders. Despite the varied growing conditions, the 2021 season produced reasonable yields, with the Lady Claire chip variety achieving an average of 33.2 tons per hectare. The new chip and French fries varieties, some of which are crosses with the existing reference variety Innovator, were generally of good quality with no significant issues. The mid-early Lady Claire potato chip variety continues to be the primary reference for chip varieties, while Fontane remains the dominant variety for French fries in Flanders.
