The 2022 corn cultivation and seed propagation were significantly affected by drought and heat, leading to lower national yields and changes in farming practices. The drought accelerated ripening and reduced seed propagation areas for some crops, while increasing varieties in propagation since 2004. Despite the challenges, Hungarian varieties remained prominent, and there are concerns about seed stocks of certain winter wheat, barley, and triticale varieties running out prematurely. The drought also emphasized the importance of agrotechnical practices, variety selection, and precrop management, and while there may not be a serious rye seed shortage in fall 2022, shortages of certain other seeds are possible.
