Consumption of salmon in Russia has halved by the end of 2022 due to soaring prices, which reached a high of 2,000 rubles per 1 kg in July. The increase in prices was largely due to the cessation of imports from the Faroe Islands following sanctions. As a result, restaurants removed salmon dishes from their menus, and consumers shifted their preference to tuna, which is imported mainly from East Asia and 'friendly' countries, and is less subject to price fluctuations.
