The Ministry of Agriculture in Zambia is executing the Market-Oriented Rice Development Project (MOREDEP) in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), targeting 240 farmers across five agriculture camps in Mongu district. The project, which started in 2021 and ends in 2024, aims to enhance rice production and quality through the adoption of advanced agricultural practices. It also emphasizes the benefits of polished rice in the market, packaging techniques, and providing market information. Each farmer has received rice seed, line markers, and ropes to support production. The farmers have expressed satisfaction with the project, anticipating increased yields, and have requested the construction of canals to mitigate flooding challenges.
