Río Cruces Wetland: Presence of Avian Influenza confirmed in black-necked swan

Following the verification of the presence of the H5N1 virus, the SAG and CONAF activated surveillance protocols and preventive protective measures in the area. The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) detected the presence of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1 in a black-necked swan within the Río Cruces and Chorocamayo Nature Sanctuary, in the Río Cruces Wetland. This finding, made by the service's central laboratory last April 9, has led to the immediate implementation of sanitary surveillance and monitoring measures throughout the sector to carry out preventive follow-up of the situation. In coordination with this work, CONAF activated the safety and surveillance protocols in the protected area, after receiving the initial reports of birds with symptoms compatible with the disease.
