In August 2024, Vietnam's clam exports surged to nearly $10 million, a 29% increase from the previous year, contributing to a total of over $65 million in the first eight months, up 19%. The country's mollusc farming covers 41,500 hectares, producing 265,000 tons annually, with clams making up 179,000 tons and employing 200,000 workers. The EU, particularly Spain and Italy, is the largest importer, though exports to Italy are unstable. China, the third largest importer, saw a 215% increase in imports by August 2024. The rising global demand for clams and mussels is expected to sustain export growth throughout the year.
