Roskachestvo, the government agency responsible for consumer rights protection in Russia, has concluded its study on the safety and quality of semi-hard cheeses in the mass market, covering 116 trade marks and five types of cheese. The research aimed to assure consumers that low price does not necessarily indicate product falsification and to identify any non-dairy fats added to the cheese. The study found that several brands met the legal standards, with Belebeevsky brand leading as the most consistent in quality. However, the study also revealed that four brands contained vegetable fats, which may raise concerns about product integrity. The high production costs of semi-hard cheeses, especially due to the need for high-fat and protein content in the milk, explain the higher price range. This investigation highlights the importance of consumer safety and product transparency in the Russian dairy industry.
