During a public hearing in the Senate held on Wednesday (19), which discussed Federal Government measures to support rural producers in Rio Grande do Sul affected by floods and droughts, the head of the Department of Regulation, Supervision, and Control of Rural Credit Operations and Proagro (Derop) of the Central Bank, Cláudio Filgueiras Pacheco Moreira, presented a concerning diagnosis about the indebtedness in the countryside and the increasing risks to the financial sustainability of the sector. Filgueiras stated that he personally visited affected properties in the state and highlighted the weight of Rio Grande do Sul rural producers in the indebtedness covered by Provisional Measure (MP) 1.314/2025, which released R$ 12 billion for new rural credit lines. According to him, "Rio Grande do Sul represents almost 98% of the indebtedness part of the MP."
