Russia could become a major exporter of alfalfa to China

Annual imports of alfalfa into China amount to about 2 million tons and consumption growth is forecast to be 7-8% per year in the near future. The main exporters at the moment are the USA and Spain, but it would be more convenient for Chinese importers to purchase alfalfa nearby, and with new production facilities Russia can enter this market. China is a promising market for Russian alfalfa exports, says Sergei Gontar, General Director of the Association of Hay and Feed Exporters. In a commentary for the Federal State Budgetary Institution Agroexport, which was reviewed by sfera.fm, the expert indicated that the annual import of alfalfa into this country is about 2 million tons.
