Russia has become the largest supplier of nitrogen fertilizers to the United States of America, providing approximately 35% of the American market for carbamide (urea) imports. This is reported by the Russian publication Kommersant. As of January–August 2025, deliveries of Russian carbamide to the USA increased by 31% compared to the same period last year—to over 1.5 million tons. Overall, carbamide imports to the USA increased by only 3% during this time. As noted, Russia has surpassed its main competitors: Qatar with a share of about 19% and Algeria with approximately 10% of the American market for nitrogen fertilizer imports. Analysts explain the increase in share by the fact that Russian fertilizers were not subject to increased U.S. import duties, which Washington introduced in April 2025 for a number of nitrogen fertilizer suppliers.
