In 2020, Russia achieved a record in agricultural exports, with a 20% increase from the previous year, reaching 79 million tons and $30.7 billion in value. This marks the first time in post-Soviet history that Russia became a net exporter of food, with imports totaling $29.7 billion, one billion less than exports. The export growth was driven by increases in grain, fat and oil products, meat, dairy, and food and processing industry products, with the largest shares going to China, Turkey, and Kazakhstan. However, fish and seafood exports saw a decrease due to the pandemic's impact on demand and prices. The growth in exports was attributed to high domestic production and favorable market conditions, with grain and sunflower oil exports experiencing the largest increases.
