Russia is experiencing a surge in imports of non-traditional nuts such as cashews and macadamias, indicating a shift in consumer preferences towards these unusual varieties. In the first eight months of 2021, macadamia nut imports increased sixfold compared to the same period in 2020, reaching 457 tons, a significant rise from the nearly zero imports of four years ago. The sweet taste and high nutritional value of macadamia nuts have made them a popular addition to the Russian market, potentially displacing traditional nuts like walnuts. This trend suggests a growing diversity in Russia's nut consumption habits.
