In the first quarter of this year, Vietnamese tuna exports to Russia saw a significant increase of 65% compared to the same period in 2023, amounting to 10 million US dollars. Russia now ranks as the fourth largest market for Vietnamese tuna exports. The majority of these exports consist of frozen tuna meat/loin, which accounts for 75% of the total volume. Leading the exports are companies such as Tuna Vietnam, Hai Trieu Co., Ltd, and AHFishco, with over 61% of the total volume. Vietnam's tuna exports to Russia are duty-free due to the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement, providing a competitive edge over suppliers like China and Thailand, which impose duties of 3% and 8% respectively.
