In 2023, Iran has seen a significant increase in shrimp exports, with nearly 20,000 tons sent to Russia, a fivefold increase compared to the previous year. The country exports 60 to 70 percent of its farmed shrimp, amounting to 40,000 to 50,000 tons annually, with Russia, China, Vietnam, and European countries among the main recipients. The total shrimp harvest for the year reached 61,000 tons, marking a five percent increase from the previous year. There has also been a notable rise in shrimp production in several provines, with Sistan and Baluchestan seeing a 30 to 90 percent surge.
