Russia plans to increase the quota for Barents Sea king crab or change the supply landscape in the Far East region.

It has been reported that the TAC for Barents Sea red king crabs has remained at 12,690 tons for five consecutive years since 2022. FSA Deputy Chairman Aleksei Osipov stated that the latest monitoring data shows a favorable resource status and that a moderate increase in the existing quota should be considered. The Deputy Director of the Federal Fisheries Agency, Vasily Sokolov, said at the meeting that the relevant departments support the review of adjustment proposals based on scientific data and will decide whether to revise the 2026 catch limit based on the research results of VNIRO (Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography). Sokolov pointed out that research institutions will include 2025 survey and catch data when preparing the 2027 quota materials, and will also consider revising the 2026 quota within the year.
