The price of cod has increased following the Barcelona exhibition, due to decreasing supply. The price of Norwegian cod is now $7,000/t, up from $6,700/t the previous week. The quota for Norwegian cod in 2024 is lower than in 2023, leading to a tighter supply. The US government's ban on seafood trade with Russia, effective from June 1, has also contributed to the price increase. The price of Russian haddock is $3,000/t-$3,200/t, while that of Norwegian haddock is $3,600/t. The price of haddock may further increase, particularly when considering some US buyers are still ordering haddock products from Chinese processing plants using Russian raw materials.
