The Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) of Mexico is working in technical cooperation with Belize's Ministry of Agriculture, Food Safety and Belize Companies to promote the production of soybean, soursop, coconut, and pitahaya in Belize. This cooperation includes training and technology transfer for these crops, with over 700 technicians, extension agents, and producers already trained. The partnership aims to incorporate small producers into commercial agri-food supply chains, strengthening the agri-food relationship between Mexico and Belize, and providing opportunities for trade and cooperation for small producers in both countries. This year marks the first time Belize has achieved self-sufficiency in soybean production, with plans to export to China and Mexico, and discussions are underway for potential joint investment in soybean production and technical assistance in other crops.
