SAG AND CHILECARNE COMMERCIAL MISSION IN ASIA: PROGRESS IN JAPAN, SOUTH KOREA AND CHINA

A Chilean delegation, led by the Agricultural and Commercial Attaché, Nury Disegni, recently concluded a successful tour in Asia to bolster Chile's agricultural trade relations with Japan, South Korea, and China. The tour aimed to achieve significant progress in overcoming trade hurdles, particularly in restarting poultry exports to China, the country's third-largest meat export destination.

In Japan, discussions were held to update animal health protocols and negotiate a new pork export framework, with a focus on advancing zoning agreements for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza and African Swine Fever to ensure safe pork exports. In South Korea, the delegation explored the potential of sheep meat market opening and the benefits of Chile's certification model for livestock products.

In China, negotiations towards a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for pigs aimed at enhancing trade relations and expanding Chilean meat exports were intensively pursued. This initiative, four years in the making, underscores the commitment of both nations to improving trade standards and practices, representing a significant step forward in Chile's strategic position in the Asian market.
