At the country's central fisheries institute, the Federal Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) under the chairmanship of the institute's director, Doctor of Economics Kirill Kolontchin, an extended meeting of the Scientific Council took place on April 9, 2026, combined with a meeting of the Industry Council on Commercial Forecasting under the Federal Fisheries Agency. The key issue on the agenda was the determination of the projected volumes of Pacific salmon catch in Russia's Far East in 2026. The Director of the Department of Anadromous Fishes of Russia, Olga Maznikova, presented detailed data on fishing areas. According to scientific calculations, the total possible catch of Pacific salmon in the Russian waters of the Far East is justified at the level of 227 thousand tons.
