A new agreement between Peru and South Korea aims to enhance the safety of Peruvian exports of aquatic animals and seaweed to Korea. The agreement, set to be enforced within a year of signing, requires Peruvian exporting establishments to obtain approval from Sanipes and be on the official exporting establishments list provided to the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). The deal also includes a risk-based control plan, sanitary certificate format, and procedures for handling food safety issues. In 2022, 29 Peruvian companies exported 9,257 tons of hydrobiological products to Korea, primarily to South American regions and including shrimp, squid, and frozen flying fish eggs.
