Saudi Arabia has started exporting fresh produce to Europe, marking its first foray into the sector, thanks to the use of advanced greenhouses and vertical farming. The initiative, which began in 2019, is part of a broader plan to reduce the country's reliance on food imports. The project is now progressing to the next phase of selling all its produce, especially during the winter season. The first trial shipment to Europe weighed approximately 5 tons. The goal is to export 12 tons of fresh vegetables daily for four months to the European market by 2025, amounting to an annual total of 1500 tons.
