Argentina: They suggest closing part of Management Unit B for a year to ensure the survival of scallop cohorts

Researchers from the INIDEP Benthic Program suggested closing a zone of the polygon that makes up Management Unit B in the Patagonian scallop fishery during the current year. The suggestion is part of the maximum allowable catch recommendations for 2022 made by Silvana Campodónico and Mariana Escolar, after evaluating the biomass and describing the structure of lengths that were analyzed with data obtained in the evaluation campaign in said MU on board the ship Víctor Angelescu between last August 21 and September 13. Management Unit B is located in a diagonal area between 38º and 39º30´ S and 56º30´ and 55º W. The results of the evaluation shaped the Technical Report 25/22. The Patagonian scallop is a bivalve mollusk that is distributed throughout the Magellanic biogeographical province.
