Biologists from St. Petersburg State University have successfully established agriculture in Russia's northernmost garden, located in the Yamal district of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The indigenous community of Ilebts, engaged in reindeer herding, decided to start a vegetable garden to reduce their dependence on supplies from the mainland. With the help of soil analysis and recommendations from Russian scientists, they have been able to sustainably grow vegetables such as potatoes and radishes in the Arctic for the past two years, demonstrating the potential for agriculture in the region.
