Wanju County in Jeollanam-do is fully pushing ahead with the "Seaweed Carbon Credit (Carbon Reduction Certification Quantity) Pilot Project" to verify the potential for converting to carbon credits by proving the carbon absorption capability of seaweed. This project is part of utilizing marine blue carbon resources to reduce greenhouse gases, operating by measuring and verifying the fixed amount of carbon dioxide absorbed while maintaining seaweed in seaweed farms without harvesting it. The project sites include seaweed farms in Cheongsan-myeon Mosori. The measured data will be reviewed by specialized research institutions to establish a carbon absorption quantification method and certification system. This data will be used for future marine carbon credit projects.
