The variable weather in Europe has marked the forecast for yields from various grain crops in the monthly bulletin of the European Commission's Research Center JRC Mars - Crop Monitoring in Europe. The serious rainfall deficit in Northwest Europe in the Benelux countries, Northern France, Germany, Western and Southern Poland, and Sweden defined this spring as one of the driest since 1991. This raised concerns about expected yields of winter and spring crops, while real consequences are currently observed only locally. Meanwhile, the Iberian Peninsula, Italy, and Greece benefited from abundant rainfall, which led to positive expectations for yields, especially in Spain and Portugal, where yields are forecast to be 15-20% above the five-year average.
