The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in South Korea has announced that Korean beef, beef cattle, Korean beef calves, and mung beans will be eligible for direct payment support for damages under this year's Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) through an administrative notice. The final list of products will be confirmed after receiving objections from May 13 to June 3. This support is designed to compensate for the price decline of agricultural and livestock products due to increased imports, but farmers and the livestock industry argue that the payment amounts are too low due to the influx of cheap imported products and the removal of tariffs on U.S. and European products in 2026. The livestock industry is pushing for the direct support measures to be extended, while some are calling for a review of the current FTA direct payment system.
