Senegal is set to boost its oyster sector with a new strategy aimed at sustainable production and contributing to economic and social development. The strategy, developed with stakeholders and spearheaded by FISH4ACP, targets a 30% increase in production to 21,000 tonnes in the next decade, covering over 80% of domestic demand. It also aims to nearly triple the added value of the sector to USD 12.6 million and create an additional 4,500 full-time jobs. The strategy also highlights the importance of oyster farming for environmental reasons and emphasizes the crucial role of women in the sector.
