Seogwipo Fishery Cooperative (Chairman Kim Mi-ja) conducted the '2026 Making the Sea of Hope' campaign in the fishing grounds of Sinheung-ri Fishermen's Association and Ha-ye-dong Fishermen's Association on the 8th, investing approximately 38 million won in the release of aquatic seedlings. The aquatic seedlings released on this day were abalone and sea cucumber. These two are representative aquatic products directly harvested by female divers, but it has been reported that their catch has drastically decreased over the past few years, raising concerns about resource depletion. Seogwipo Fishery Cooperative has been struggling to save the declining hajami (female diver) industry and to maintain the lineage of Seogwipo female diver culture. In particular, the Seogwipo Fishery Cooperative has been releasing seedlings since 2018 due to concerns about the depletion of aquatic resources.
