The National Forest and Wildlife Service (Serfor) has launched the V National Census of Vicunas 2025, which will update information on the population of this wild species and strengthen actions for its conservation and sustainable management. Thanks to this work, the country will have accurate data on the abundance, distribution, and threats facing the vicuña, such as poaching and habitat degradation. This information will be key to designing public policies, promoting scientific research, and supporting peasant communities, which are central to its protection and responsible use. The census, organized by the Serfor, will be conducted in 16 regions of the country. The first phase will cover Cajamarca, La Libertad, Ancash, and Huánuco.
