A Finnish-flagged freighter carrying 18,000 tonnes of Ukrainian corn has arrived in Spain via the Baltic Sea, marking the first shipment using a new sea route to bypass the Russian blockade of Ukrainian Black Sea ports. The corn, destined for animal consumption, was transported to Romania and Poland before being shipped to Poland, then Germany, and finally Spain. The route is part of efforts to mitigate the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has paralyzed grain exports, leading to higher prices and fears of a food crisis in countries reliant on Ukrainian grain.
