The government has initiated a transformation in the distribution structure of aquatic products by considering a plan to allow regional middlemen to participate in the online wholesale market for agricultural and aquatic products as sellers rather than buyers. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries proposed at the '2nd Market Management and Operations Committee for the Agricultural and Aquatic Products Online Wholesale Market 2025' meeting held on September 25 at the aT Center Comprehensive Situation Room in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, to review the plan to allow regional middlemen to participate as sellers. The online wholesale market operates with roles divided between sellers (wholesale market corporations, regional distribution organizations, etc.) and buyers (middlemen, direct traders, etc.) according to the 'Act on the Distribution and Price Stabilization of Agricultural and Aquatic Products.' However, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries believes that under the 'Aquatic Products Distribution Act,' regional middlemen should be allowed to participate as sellers.
