Shrimp exports from Iran earn $150 million since March

EghtesadOnline: A total of $150 million worth of farmed shrimp have been exported from Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year on March 21, 2021, an official with Iran’s Fisheries Organization said on Monday. “Our main export destinations were China and the UAE, followed by Turkey, Iraq, Spain and France. Small consignments of the seafood were also exported to Eurasian Economic Union member states, including Armenia and Russia,” Morteza Afrasiabi was also quoted as saying by IRNA.A total of 57,800 tons of shrimp have been harvested from 14,035 hectares of farms across the country during the period under review, 75-80% of which have been exported.The southern Bushehr Province is Iran’s farmed shrimp production hub, followed by Hormozgan, also in the country’s south.Afrasiabi said Iran Fisheries Organization plans to expand its international outreach, as well as in Europe and EEU.Iran is a major seafood producer in the region with trout, caviar and shrimp ...
